U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s release of the USDA weekly export sales report for the week ending 21 February indicated unexpectedly large sales of U.S. soybeans, particularly to China. Sales of soymeal and soyoil were at the low end of analysts’ estimates, but soymeal exports were higher than average. Net soybean export sales totaled 2,196,000 MT for the week. That was more than twice the highest estimate of analysts queried by Reuters. The largest amount was 1,815,700 MT sold to China. Other sizable sales were to the Netherlands (158,600 MT), Germany (138,000 MT), Egypt (112,800 MT) and Taiwan (84,600 MT). Sales for shipment in 2019/20 totaled only 200 MT to Japan. Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
