Another week of war in Ukraine and another week of dramatic impacts in the global oilseeds market. Not as dramatic as the wheat and corn market, but policymakers are reacting to increasing concerns about food security. Fertilizer Foundation Crops do not grow well without fertilizer and it has become the cause de jour. Russia has been supplying around 20 percent of the globe’s fertilizer, including 25 percent of consumption in South America. The U.S. can punish Moscow by stopping imports but even if South American countries keep buying, prices for this critical input have doubled.
