Opposite Views on Everything

Opposite Ways on Biotech: One of the U.S. goals in the upcoming EU-U.S. trade and investment agreement negotiations reportedly is to get Brussels to work more expeditiously on events approved by European Food Safety Authority. Their prospects do not look very good. Twenty of the EU's 27 members voted this week to go the opposite way and increase the mandatory testing period of biotech food and feed on rats from 17 days to 90 days. This is despite an EU policy to reduce the amount of animal testing whenever possible, and the lack of evidence that the 17 days of testing has failed in any way. The infamous French Seralini test of biotech maize on rats was a two-year-long test, but it was hugely flawed in structure.Opposite Ways on Biofuel: B...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
