Pigs of the Future: Impact on Feed The high feed costs as a result of the drought have led to a reduction -- rather than what was expected to be an expansion -- in pork production this year. The long-term effect of this culling could be very dramatic. The most likely herd reductions in the U.S. will come from smaller, less efficient operations.
