Indonesia's Palm Oil Plays Oilseed competitors in western countries have extensively used disparagement to slow the palm oil tsunami out of Southeast Asia. They first called the hypercompetitive oil tree fat, in reference to its saturated fat content. More recently, it has campaigned around the idea that it is not sustainable since plantations have been expanding into former rainforests. Indonesia is fighting back. It believes it can get the group of countries known as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to designate palm oil as a green product for environmental good.
