Now would appear to be a good time for the Trump administration to consider offering Argentina a deal to avert imposition of the CVDs by agreeing to take a specific action.As previously discussed (see Ag Perspectives, 24 August), the U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed provisional countervailing duties (CVDs) on biodiesel imports from Argentina as well as Indonesia that range from 50.29 to 64.17 percent and 41.06 to 68.28 percent of their value, respectively. Until a final investigation determines the final duties, U.S. importers will have to post deposits equal to the amounts due for all such products from these two nations, which will effectively make them cost-prohibitive.The CVDs on Argentina’s biodiesel are a response to that count...
Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
