EU COOL Pre-Study Results The European Commission has ordered a study to evaluate the impacts of a proposed intra-EU origin labeling requirement on milk and milk containing products. The concept should be viewed as the antithesis of the single market toward which the Continent has been evolving for nearly 60 years. Without even launching a study it is clear that the concept undermines the very principle of a common market, as do geographic indicators to a somewhat lesser extent. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
