This is the day of a big White House meeting on reforming the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). News of it being scheduled, which broke late last week, was enough to push down the price of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs). The topic of today’s meeting is not long-term RFS reform, however, and is instead a short-term RINs fix to help refiner Philadelphia Energy Solutions(PES) keep its doors open. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who defeated President Trump in the 2016 Republican Iowa caucus despite his calls for eliminating the RFS, was at PES on 23 February to hold a rally.
