RFS Waivers and RINs Prices

On 22 February, we noted that the Supreme Court had agreed to hear a challenge to the 10th District Court’s ruling on small refinery exemptions (SREs). In January, the Department of Justice, acting as counsel for the EPA, had requested that the Supreme Court not hear the case and instead affirm the 10th District case; the EPA announced it would be applying the ruling of the 10th District to all future SRE requests. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court announced it will hear the case on 27 April; the final decision could come around July.   Meanwhile, 13 Republican Senators from oil states have asked EPA to waive the required volume obligations for 2020 due to the COVID disruption. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
