Activists have pressed for stronger action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to slow the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture. A key argument is that such use increases the rate of antibiotic resistance in humans. Veterinarians have noted that this can't be true since there is very little overlap between the antibiotics used in humans and animals. Now a five-year strategic plan for reducing antimicrobial resistance issued by the UK government affirms as much.
