Poultry is winning due to price and its health halo, and beef is viewed as a premium product. The result is that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs reported this week that the nation’s sow herd had fallen 3.2 percent to 40.73 million head. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
