Current economic dynamics in Brazil and Argentina are creating some opportunities for the agricultural sectors in both Uruguay and Paraguay. Brazil The Brazilian economy has suffered a substantial loss of competitiveness in the manufacturing sector over the last ten years. This is primarily due to high wages, increased energy prices and the appreciation of the exchange rate, all of which were not offset by substantial productivity gains. As a result, Brazilian manufacturing this year has supposedly become 23 percent more expensive than in the United States.
