Milling Wheat Prices in the Black Sea region were again about unchanged last week. Russian exports continue to impress at close to 15 MMT already shipped since the start of the campaign. Meanwhile, the EU has exported 4.8 MMT since the start of the campaign versus 6.2 MMT at the same time a year ago, a drop of approximately 23 percent. Strategie Grains is estimating the total will be 19.4 MMT against 20.5 MMT last year, but there have been other estimates as low as 15 MMT. If the export pace continues to lag about 20-25 percent in the coming months, it will be difficult or impossible to achieve the the Strategie Grains estimate. The main differing factor in these opinions concerns the EU domestic feed wheat consumption. Strategie Grains b...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
