Stats Canada released its 31 July stocks report this morning and it continued to follow the trend of smaller-than-expected numbers (see table below).It is noteworthy that every one of the numbers is smaller than those from a year ago and generally smaller than the range of pre-report estimates (even though the range of estimates seems very wide). It is particularly noteworthy that the canola stocks number is a full million metric tons less than a year ago. Canada's 2012 canola crop is now expected to be far less than early season forecasts as actual harvest results have been very disappointing. Late season heat and dry weather cut yields.
