The largest U.S. dairy organization asked the Trump Administration to challenge Canada under the USMCA’s dispute settlement process for failing to abide by that agreement’s market access provisions. Now that request has been handed off to the Biden Administration which was politically supported by labor unions and the National Farmers Union (NFU), both of which oppose challenging Canada. The NFU has for years sought a Canadian-style supply management system for American farmers. The Biden White House has already offended Canada with its cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline and its proposed Buy American provisions. Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
