Tracking Sustainable Aviation Fuel

A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives that would require the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) to add sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the agency’s monthly published data to provide a benchmark on how the fuel is developing. Recall, the Biden Administration has made a goal of 3 billion gallons of SAF by 2030 – which is five and half years away. Currently, EIA reports SAF in its “other biofuels” data set. The other biofuels category includes renewable heating oil and renewable naphtha and gasoline. However, EPA has data on RINs generation by fuel type which provides a good benchmark of production. According to EPA’s data, in 2023, SAF production was 26.3 million gallons, up fro...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
