It has often been said that "high prices are the best cure for high prices." We have used this old phrase more than once ourselves. The assumption is that high prices will curtail demand and increase supplies, thus curing high prices by driving them lower. The truth of this old saying as it applies to grain and soybeans has been sorely tested during the last two years. During that period we frequently have seen prices for corn, wheat, soybeans and soy products that appeared to qualify as "high" from a historical perspective. Crop growers certainly were encouraged to try to produce more supplies by increasing planted areas even though, as it turned out, their plans to increase production may have been frustrated by widespread adverse weath...
