U.S. chicken products have been blocked from South Africa since 2000 – the same year that the United States passed the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) – and in reaction South Africa constrained the imports of U.S. poultry.The U.S. and South African governments recently met in Paris and came to a deal on chicken trade issues as well as set a timeline to address beef and pork this month. The agreement allowed for the renewed market access into South Africa of U.S. bone-in chicken via a rebate on the anti-dumping duty. The South African government will implement the agreed-upon framework.
