USDA Still Quantifying Practices and Procedures for 45Z Tax Credit

On Friday, USDA released a Request for Information (RFI) on the Production of Biofuel Feedstocks Using Climate-Smart Practices, with a 30-day comment period. That implies that the earliest the final rule under 45Z could come is in September – considering a 30-day comment period and, at the very quickest, 30 days of USDA’s review. That is noteworthy as the credit goes into effect on 1 January 2025.   Recall, on 4 June WPI reported that the Treasury Department released its Initial Guidance to biofuel producers on how to register for the Clean Fuel Production tax credit known as Section 45Z. As mentioned, in order to qualify for the credit biofuel producers must pre-register. However, there are no rules yet as to how the...

Market Commentary: Calm for the Day but Geopolitics Hint at Looming Volatility

From WPI Consulting

Illuminating the value of technical research

On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
