Values; Cotton Bust; Dead Goose

The challenge to Europe and the U.S. in the TTIP negotiations is not how to handle tariffs, but how to manage value-based differences involving roughly two equivalent powers. For example, the belief that capital punishment is or is not a rational response to abhorrent crime and a deterrent to future episodes varies by country or society. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman solicits support for TPP by asserting that America has “A values-driven trade policy.” In similar fashion, leaders in Brussels say they will defend European values, extending that to the recent requi...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
