Farm Bill on Senate Floor for Debate After passing a farm bill out of Committee last week on Tuesday 14 May, the Senate officially took up the farm bill on Wednesday night, 15 May, at 5:38 p.m. Today the Senate took up the farm bill again at 3:00 p.m. but at the time of this report was scheduled to go into Executive Session to consider the nominations for two federal judgeships. The farm bill is not expected to be finished this week; however, debate will continue until the immigration bill is ready for the floor. The Senate is expected to finish the farm bill before the end of the month. Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
