India’s Rise The world’s largest democracy has refused to criticize or disengage from Russia’s autocratic regime. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing his country’s power card between Russia and the U.S. The Biden Administration will pour on a full-court press this year to win the competition. Biden and Modi will meet at this summer’s Quad (Australia, India, Japan, USA) meeting in Sydney, and at the G20 meeting in India. The White House is also working on an invitation for Modi to visit the U.S.  The calculus is that India is now the most populace country, but also one of the poorest.
