General Comments It was soybeans versus the grains in today's market action. Grains fell rather hard and soybeans stayed in positive territory, although they did close well below session highs. Non-commercial selling pummeled wheat, triggered by forecasts of rain for parts of Russia and by harvest reports from Kansas that were not as bad as feared. The dollar moved to a 22-month high against the euro, and this did not help commodity markets in general. Most commodities closed lower today. WTI crude oil was up about $1.50 but quickly headed south when the dollar suddenly posted a sharp gain. WTI crude wound up closing down 10 cents at $90.76.
