India and Iran Hook Up on Soymeal Reports today indicate that Iranian firms have recently purchased about 100,000 MT of Indian soymeal for $420-435/MT FOB. Shipments are to begin in April.The U.S. and EU sanctions imposed on Iran for its nuclear policies apparently are the main reason why Iranian companies are turning to India for soymeal. The sanctions have reduced Iran's foreign exchange earnings and made financial transaction difficult. India is not participating in the sanctions because it relies on Iran for a lot of its petroleum needs and it sees a chance to capitalize on the current situation by expanding sales to Iran.
