Japan's Soybean Imports Forecast to fall to 43-Year Low Japan's Oil and Fat Importers association on Friday predicted Japan's imports of soybeans this year are likely to decline by 4.6 percent to 2.7 MMT. If imports do fall that low, it would be the lowest level of imports in 43 years. That also would be a 47 percent decline in Japan's imports since it imported almost 5.2 MMT in the 2002/03 marketing year.The sharp decline in Japan's soybean imports is rather shocking considering that Japan was the world's largest single-country importer of soybeans as recently as the 1998/99 marketing year.
