Argentina Apparently Seeks U.S. Deal  Argentina’s decision to raise the export tax on biodiesel from zero to 8 percent (see Ag Perspectives, 14 December) is apparently an effort to get the U.S. to eliminate or reduce the countervailing and antidumping duties imposed on such shipments. However, this move is likely insufficient to make much difference. As previously noted, the U.S. soybean processing sector has long been critical of Argentina’s differential export taxes on soybeans and soy products because they serve as subsidies for soymeal and soyoil exports.
