This week's USDA supply/demand report was bearish because, contrary to widespread belief, USDA made no changes to the ending stocks number. That erroneous belief was based on the smaller-than-expected March quarterly stocks number. USDA's corn numbers have been the center of controversy for more than a year now due to the inconsistencies in the quarterly stocks estimates. Evidently USDA decided it didn't trust the March number enough to reduce ending supplies that are already very tight.
