When January 2012 comes to an end a week from today, we will have gone through the first five months of the U.S. corn and soybean statistical crop year and eight months of U.S. wheat's crop year. This makes it a pretty good time to look at the pace of U.S. grain and soy exports to see how they measure with USDA's forecasts. Official export volumes are based on U.S. Census Bureau data which is presently available only through November, but by using data on shipments thereafter compiled by FGIS plus our estimates for the balance of each crop year, we should be able to come up with reasonable estimates of exports for the statistical crop year as a whole.
