Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed into law a new pesticide registration statute that will benefit the approval of generic pesticides. The new law grants greater discretionary authority to the Ag Ministry in approving and overseeing pesticides. President Lula did use his line-item veto power to change some of the provisions of the law; one, a role for the environmental agency Ibama and the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) for oversight prior to final approval was maintained. On behalf of a Canadian oilseed processer WPI's team provided market analysis, econometric modeling and financial due diligence in support of a $24 million-dollar investment in a Ukrainian crush plant. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment.
