Public Health COVID-19 Cases and Deaths Slow, Lockdown in Beijing Widens In an effort to avoid the chaotic nature of the lockdown in Shanghai and other major cities across the country, Beijing authorities have taken a more deliberate approach.  Through yesterday, the city of 22 million residents had completed the second of three proposed rounds of testing for new variants of the novel coronavirus in twelve out of a total sixteen districts. City officials have shut down more than 60 subway stations in addition to schools, restaurants, and other public gathering places.
