Early voting in the two Georgia Senate runoff races begins today. Georgia is one of the few states with special election rules, where there is no primary and all candidates, regardless of party, run in the general election. If no single candidates earns 50 percent of the vote, there is a January runoff. Since 1988, there have been seven statewide runoffs in Georgia.  This cycle’s runoff is on 5 January (with, as mentioned, early voting starting today). The 117th Congress convenes on 3 January.
