It was opposed to the diet’s reliance on fat levels of 70 percent or more of calories consumed, particularly saturated fat. The dietary guidelines suggest about 65 percent of calories should come from carbohydrates and 10 percent from dietary saturated fats, higher than the American Heart Association’s recommendation of 5-6 percent.
