Just in time for the summer barbeque season, U.S. beef exports and imports are adjusting to the tightening domestic supply situation. The U.S. is the world’s largest consumer of beef, though not on a per capita basis. Both beef exports and imports had been rising but as the domestic cattle herd contracts, beef imports will begin to rise. Exports in the first two months of this year are down by 8.9 percent and imports are up by 2.7 percent.  Beef imports are up from main supplier Canada, and from number four supplier Australia, but are down from Mexico and Brazil.
