Rostov Oblast for example has already planted 5 percent of the planned spring crops area. Moreover, this Oblast set a new record for early planting of sunflower seeds. By 20 March, 2,100 ha were planted. Russian Southern Federal District is planting at full speed with the planting season starting 10-14 days earlier than usual. Russia may lose its leadership position in rye production. Each year the acreage under this crop is decreasing.
