Russian Grains Markets: 16-20 May 2022 As of 17 May, spring planting was in line with last year, yet still behind 2020 by 40 percent and 2019 by 30 percent, according to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. Earlier in the season the government was trying to stabilize prices for inputs and banned ammonium nitrate exports. While most of the inputs grew in price, fuel prices remained relatively stable. Experts believe that input costs are 20 percent higher compared to 2021. The government is offering low interest loans, but they are unlikely to cover everybody’s needs. Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
