Russian Grain Markets: 17–21 August 2026 The Russian grain market continued to decline during the third week of August as the Black Sea blockade severely disrupted export logistics. The resulting loss of export capacity is pressuring domestic prices and increasing storage concerns as the new crop enters the market. Prices have returned to around 2019 levels, although production costs are now significantly higher. The collapse in export logistics remains the primary bearish factor. Despite falling exports, the Russian government has kept export duties in place. Russian grain supplies remain ample, and exports continue through alternative channels. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
