USDA released its monthly Cattle on Feed (COF) report today after the market closed. The total inventory on feed in 1,000+ capacity feedlots was 11.7 million head, the 30th straight month of a year-over-year increase and the largest total for 1 June since the series of reports began in 1996.

The pace of May marketing was current at 17.7 percent of on-feed inventory marketed versus 15.6 percent in April. Average daily marketings were 90,000 head based on 23 slaughter days in May (excluding Saturdays). Other disappearance for the month totaled 72,000 head, and net placements were 1.99 million head.
