Oilseeds Soymeal Inventory Rises as Feed Demand Falls Sharply The impact of African swine flu (ASF) has continued to dampen feed demand throughout the end of October and into the start of November. Equally important, the newly recommended protein inclusion guidance of 26 October also appears to be impacting soymeal utilization. As a result, the nation’s estimated soymeal inventory climbed for the second consecutive week to reach 968,900 MT as of 2 November, up 75,300 MT (+8.4 percent) from the previous week and, reversing trends from two weeks ago, 320,600 MT (+49.5 percent) more than the same week in 2017. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
