China’s Future Feed Demand

China’s consumption of animal protein is changing fast due to the impact of ASF on its swine herd. While some estimates are that up to a half of the hogs will be gone due to the disease, at least a 30 percent reduction seems plausible. Prices for poultry and other alternatives are up and the question is whether China’s livestock sector is facing a permanent or just temporary realignment. In 2016 with 18.8 percent of the world’s population, China consumed over half the world’s pork but just 14.3 percent of global poultry supplies and 11 percent of beef. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
