The Senate passed the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package over the weekend by a vote of 50-49. The bill changes some of the non-agriculture related provisions of the House bill, so it must go back to the House for a final vote before President Biden can sign it. That vote is expected to happen tomorrow. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pennsylvania) offered an amendment to strip all the ag provisions out of the bill. That amendment failed on a vote of 49-50. Toomey is retiring from the Senate at the end of this session. The ag provisions in the bill total about $10.4 billion – with about $12 billion for nutrition programs.
