Deforestation Policy Europe’s effort to end deforestation has focused on blocking imported products from areas that have more recently undergone deforestation. It is important to note that deforestation occurs everywhere and can be offset by afforestation. According to the German Aerospace Centre, Germany has lost 5 percent (501,000 ha.) of its forests since 2018 due to climate change or the need to conduct pest management. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment.
