The July CPI showed that retail egg prices have steadily dropped this year, down 7.4 percent from June, but still remain 27.3 percent higher than last year. Through January 2025, the egg industry has 8 percent fewer laying hens compared to three years prior. During that time, approximately 100 million table-egg laying hens have been depopulated due to HPAI. The July Chicken and Eggs report released yesterday shows total table egg production down in June by more than 460 million eggs, a decrease of 6.1 percent. Among the top states, only Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin were up in egg production, adding 109,900 eggs.
