The elections have had their impact on Congress as well as the Senate and House Agriculture Committees (as previously noted). Perhaps the biggest changes, though, have been at the state level, particularly with governors. However, some also occurred among those state agriculture commissioners, secretaries and directors who are directly elected. There are 12 states where the posts are directly elected and 42 where they are appointed (including four territories: Puerto Rico, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam).
