European Market Analysis

Regional News  The weather patterns remain unfavorable for EU and UK summer crop development with above-average temperatures forecast for the next 15 days. The hot temperatures will combine with below-normal rainfall to offer significant chances at crop stress heading into mid-July. The latest model runs from both the GFS and EU models show a slightly wetter pattern developing in the 6-10-day forecast now, but predicted volumes are still well below normal. The current dryness is starting to take a toll on crop conditions, and NDVI maps are showing emerging stress through central France, Italy, Hungary, and parts of Romania and Bulgaria.    Turkey decided to increase transit fees through the Bosphorus strait by 15 percent effe...

From WPI Consulting

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
