European Market Analysis

Regional News  More favorable weather patterns have developed over Europe and western Ukraine in recent weeks. The region has been afflicted with above average temperatures and below average rainfall. Only light showers have reached southwestern Russia and cumulative precipitation deficits range from 5-25 mm over the past month. The curre...

Market Commentary: Turnaround Thursday but Friday is Another Day

Today’s trading opened with a head scratcher after USDA reported 135 KMT of U.S. corn sold to China. There isn’t any corn import demand in China, and if there was it probably would not originate from the U.S. It was quickly corrected to be bound to South Korea.   Nonethele...

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
