Farm Bill Odds Various political analysts are placing better than 50/50 odds that the farm bill is approved during the current lame-duck session of the U.S. Congress. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) has said that it is one of two items that “absolutely have to be accomplished” this year. McConnell is one of the most successful Senate leaders, and the farm bill contains a provision that is very important to him. The holdup is with conservative House Republicans demanding a work requirement for certain food aid recipients.
