Fauxfundity EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström’s op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today contained oversight, invention and contradiction. She lamented that friends (the U.S.) do not impose tariffs on friends (the EU). However, the EU has never been friendly to U.S. agriculture. The commissioner next belittled U.S. trade policy by saying that it “is increasingly difficult to understand.” One would have to know nothing of trade policy or negotiation not to understand that Donald Trump is manufacturing leverage to ultimately extract better terms of trade for the U.S. Nations do not unilaterally concede such things. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
