As we reported on 12 February, the House Agriculture Committee passed its portion of the budget reconciliation bill to conform with the FY 2022 budget resolution. The measure passed on a party line vote of 24 to 23, and all amendments – save one – failed on a party line vote. That amendment, to provide targeted disaster relief to the derecho wind storm damage in Iowa was stripped from the final bill which passed the full House by a vote of 219–212 this weekend. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
