Reflecting the rapid growth of China’s dairy import needs, albeit from a small base, the new economic agreement between Beijing and Washington includes market access requirements intended to grow the trade. As is common throughout the agreement, the U.S. commits to working on removing its sanitary barriers against Chinese products containing dairy “as soon as practicable,” whereas Beijing “shall” make way for American dairy products.
