House Budget Plan Proposed

The House Budget Committee today released the chairman's mark for the FY 2014 budget resolution. Regarding the farm bill, the budget has little to say; however, it does note that the ag economy is strong, that the top five income years for agriculture (out of the past 35) have been in this decade, and that reform is necessary. Direct payments were mentioned as an area to cut, but there is nothing prescriptive about farm programs other than a deficit reduction target. Specifically, the budget proposal says that it "does not dictate the specific changes" to programs that fall under the Agriculture Committee's jurisdiction.This is similar to agriculture's treatment in the FY 2013 House budget plan that also left reforms up to the Ag Committee...

Forecasting developments in production agriculture
